Exterior Cleanup Requirements

Exterior Cleanup Requirements are extremely important.  Lead contaminated soil can poison those exposed, making exterior cleanup equally as important as interior cleanup. If work takes place on an exterior porch or stairwell, HEPA vacuuming, wet cleaning and mopping, in addition to a thorough visual inspection, should be used to clean the work area. Collect and dispose of any dust and debris with the rest of your waste. If work leads to lead contamination of the soil, avoid dry raking and shoveling, and spreading dust UNLESS the soil has been misted first.

For jobs conducted on exterior porches or stairwells, cleanup should be like that of interior jobs. All paint chips and debris should be collected and sealed in a heavy-duty bag. Remove protective sheeting and mist it before folding. Following the misting, the sheeting should be folded with the dirty side inward and then taped or sealed in a heavy-duty bag before being disposed of as waste.

Before a Certified Renovator visually inspects the work area, check your work to determine whether dust, debris or residue is still present. If dust, debris or residue is still present, these conditions must be corrected before the visual inspection is performed.
