Forklift Training Frequently Asked Questions:

Is Forklift Training required by law?

Yes. OSHA requires any forklift operators to be trained and certified to operate the powered industrial truck in the workplace and that operator’s performance be evaluated on the provisions 1910.178 (I)(3) every three years.

How long is my Forklift certification good for?

Most forklift certifications are good for three years from the date of certification.  There are also refresher courses available.  Refresher training is required when there is a change in the workplace or type of truck being operated and for any operators found to be operating forklifts unsafely, those who have been involved or nearly involved in accidents or those who receive poor operation evaluations.  OSHA requires that all forklift operators’ performances be evaluated at least once every three years.

Yes.  OSHA requires that in addition to a license, you need to be certified to use a forklift and you also need authorization from your employer.

Do I need complete Forklift Training to operate a forklift for a quick, one-time job?

Again, yes.  Even if you are just going to operate a forklift one time for a specific job, OSHA requires that in addition to a license, you need to be certified to use a forklift and you also need authorization from your employer.

What is Forklift Training?

Forklift Training instructs operators on precautions, efficient forklift inspection, safe operation, forklift stability and limitations of the forklift. It also instructs on specific workplace related forklift topics, hazards and allows for operators to familiarize themselves with controls and specified equipment.  There is a great deal of information covered in this course and that includes firsthand operation experiences.

How do I know if I need Forklift Training?

If you work in a job that requires you to use a forklift, even occasionally or rarely, you need forklift training.  This might consist of a warehouse job, large-scale supermarkets and manual laborers.  Any contractors, employees and even temporary workers that may use a forklift on the job must be trained, licensed and certified in forklift training.

How can I prevent Forklift accidents?

The best way to prevent forklift-related injury, accidents or death is by getting educated, licensed and certified in Forklift Training.

Forklift Training Train the Trainer
