Visual Inspection Procedure
Completing a thorough visual inspection procedure after your initial cleanup is essential to completing a successful renovation. After completing your initial cleanup put on boot covers and grab a bright flashlight. Using adequate lighting during both cleaning and inspection will highlight particles left in the work area.
Start your visual inspection procedure at the furthest point from the barrier entry door at least two feet beyond your original floor containment. It is a common best practice to clean the entire room, two feet is the minimum cleanup distance as established by the EPA RRP Rule. Shine your flashlight at the highest point of the wall and check top to bottom. Periodically, hold the flashlight flush to the wall with the light shining across the wall. Rotate the flashlight up and down slowly to look for any dust you may have missed looking face on. Repeat this procedure until you have reached your barrier entry door. Be sure to conduct the visual inspection on all of your barriers remaining up around your containment area. If you spot anymore dust, simply clean the area until no more visual dust, debris, or residue remain.
